EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK

The Worksafe Emergency First Aid at work programme meets the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive for first aiders working in low risk environments (eg offices, shops, residential care settings etc)

The qualification will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work and consists of 6 hours of instructor led tuition with the emphasis on practical application of first aid skills.The content covers the basic essentials required to provide emergency care to a patient. Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including.

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of a Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • The ability to recognise and safely treat a patient who is choking.
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.

 

All students receive a comprehensive training pack which includes a full colour first aid reference manual for the student to keep for future reference. Students also receive a plastic qualification card and A4 colour certificate valid for 3 years.

 

 

FIRST AID AT WORK

The Worksafe First Aid at Work programme meets the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive for first aiders working in medium and high risk environments.

The qualification will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work and provide effective care for a wide range of common workplace injuries and illnesses. First Aid at Work training consists of 18 hours of instructor led tuition delivered over a minimum of 3 days, with emphasis throughout on practical application of first aid skills.

Candidates will receive training in a wide range of first aid skills including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of a Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  • The ability to recognise and treat a patient in shock.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.

 

Students will also learn to provide care for patients who have:

  • Suffered a burn or scold.
  • Injured bones, muscles or joints.
  • Been poisoned by ingestion or inhalation of a substance or gas.
  • Suffered an injury to the eye.
  • Signs & Symptoms of a major illness eg. heart attack.

 

Assessment- This course has a formal assessment process which includes a written assessment of the learners first aid knowledge as well as a practical assessment of the learners ability to perform safely and effectively in a range of first aid situations.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT WITH AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED)

4 HOURS

£60.00 per person

A Worksafe training programme designed to give candidates a basic knowledge of emergency resuscitation skills and instruction on how to use a portable Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively. Its an excellent syllabus to teach members of the community who would benefit from knowing basic life saving skills and using an AED.

A short and concise training programme that focuses on initial time critical care for life threatening situations including dealing with someone who has stopped breathing, is choking or has become unconscious. Information will also be presented on the Chain of Survival concept to identify how prompt effective action will greatly increase the chance of survival.

The Worksafe Basic life Support programme content includes:

  • Chain of Survival
  • Primary Survey
  • Unconscious casualties and the Recovery Position
  • Adult CPR and use of an AED
  • Dealing with choking
  • Basic bleeding control

 

All students receive a training pack which includes a full colour Basic Life Support reference manual for the student to keep for future reference. Students also receive a plastic qualification card and a A4 certificate.

 

OUTDOOR FIRST AID

2 DAYS

£110.00 per person

Leading groups of people in remote areas, or participating in any outdoor activities can bring with it unknown hazards. Common injuries sustained in the outdoors range from simple cuts and grazes to broken limbs, head and back injuries and hypothermia. Being prepared to deal with any emergency should always form part of your emergency plan and should be prepared to deal with first aid related incidents when working in this environment.

Delays in emergency service attendance times, lack of effective communication and difficulty in evacuation of casualties all present additional problems for the first aider when working in the outdoors. This course covers the essentials required to provide emergency care to a patient where emergency services may be delayed due to the incidents remote location.

Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including:

  • Assess and prioritise a first aid incident in remote areas, including multiple casualties scenarios.
  • Deal with an unconscious casualty.
  • Perform basic life support.
  • Control bleeding and manage shock.
  • Monitor and record casualties condition.
  • Recognise and manage hypothermia and other cold related injuries.
  • Casualty handover to professional persons/services.
  • Maintain first aid kits both for base and off site use.

 

Course duration: 16 hours over 2 days.
